Usually the color’s brightness depends on multiple factors but here majorly one of the factors is discussed which is LRV. The light reflectance value of Edgecomb Gray is 63.09 which means this amount of light gets reflected back making the color bright in essence.

The higher the LRV, the higher the reflection of light. With an LRV of 63.09 quite a lot of light is reflected back making it a brighter shade.

What are the undertones of Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray

Undertones are colors that appear beneath the original color under different lighting settings.
These show up with different intensities in different lighting creating multiple ambiences with a single color.

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray’s undertones are basically divided into two, primary undertones and secondary undertones.

Primary Undertone Greige

This undertone is a mix of two colors, beige and gray. These colors appear when there is ample amount of light passing through the space like an open living room, exterior space etc.

Secondary Undertone Soft Pink

This undertone is basically visible when the space is low lit like bathrooms or bedrooms.

The soft pink comes out evenly when used in spaces where there is little or no light.

In my opinion, this color has the capacity to look beautiful in either spaces whether lowly lit where the soft pink shows up or highly lit area where the greige undertone comes out evenly.

How was my experience with Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray?

Here we will be discussing my own experience with the color in detail. I used this color at home in various spaces like my kitchen, study area and my hallway. The color worked out fine and looks really elegant. Let’s see how it turned out for my home.

First Impression of the color

First and foremost before we begin with my own experience with Edgecomb gray HC 173 it is important for you to note down certain precautionary measures to avoid any hassle afterwards.

As soon as I figured out a store nearby which has in store Benjamin Moore’s Edgecomb gray, instantly I opted for a peel and stick paint sample test which cost around $6.95/ sheet.

I took 6 sheets for better evaluation of this color.

Spaces Recreated

I have liked this color so much that I tried to inculcate this color in major spaces within my home. I have used it on kitchen cabinets, study areas and my hallway.

Kitchen cabinets have been painted Edgecomb gray with the combination of Chantilly Lace OC 65. They looked fabulous and out of the space. There was a dramatic shift towards a brighter space.

For my living room there is a study area as well which needs a lot of light and brightness. This was amplified by just painting the space edgecomb gray HC 173.

My Hallway lit up quite heavily after it was painted. The additional lighting did help but the color undertones especially the beige undertone came out quite well.

Lighting Considerations

See for any color to bloom well there are multiple considerations that are to be taken into account. The various things that can be counted for are accent colors, coordinating colors, accessories like mats, rugs and other decorative items.

After these one of the major factors that can not be taken for granted is the lighting of the space.

I carefully considered lighting in my hallway, study area and kitchen cabinets. Lighting actually plays an important role here because even though the LRV is quite high as compared to other colors. With an LRV of 63.09 it reflects an ample amount of light.

Not to forget the undertones because it is them that decides the lighting of a space. So in order to be cautious about creating the space too dull or too bright, please do keep in mind the lighting aspect of it.

Paint finish and Application

I honestly wanted a color finish that is appropriate for my study area, kitchen area and hallway. Now these are spaces that are open and at the same time attract a lot of dirt and demand a lot of cleaning.

I wanted a finish where I didn’t have to fight these issues. So I went for a satin finish that stands somewhat in the space where its finesse plays the game for me. I absolutely adored the idea of using satin finish in my spaces. It worked well.

Maintenance and Durability

Even though the color has an even finish and since I used 2 coats for each of my spaces the color itself was sufficient still I chose satin finish because of its low maintenance and longer durability.

Its satin finish helped me clear all the dirt within minutes because of its smooth texture and no the dirt does not stick on and especially in spaces like kitchen cabinets it was a big relief. Same in the hallway area the dusting was too easy compared to other areas at home.

Satin finish offers a velvety shine on the walls and is easy to clean. This can be accentuated with planters or wooden decorative items or maybe something in the color brown.

Here the major aspect of hallways would be highlighted by the lighting. Since this color is in itself bright enough, proper alignment of lighting will require mediocre settings to let this color shine bright.

Exteriors

Benjamin moore edgecomb grey exterior

The outdoor space needs to be done quite beautifully and tactfully to increase the house value. In order to do so accessories like planters, chairs or coffee tables.

It is advised to go for semi- semi-gloss or high gloss finish to avoid the problem of cleaning the space. Since it is an outer space these things are actually helpful in avoiding the overdraining of this color. Edgecomb gray exterior requires lighting because of its soft pink undertone.
