What Are The Undertones And LRV Of Benjamin Moore Nimbus?

Before we get into how this color works in different spaces in your home, it is important to understand the basic specificities of this color.

We need to understand how this color looks and behaves in specific lighting. So in this section, we will discuss the undertones and LRV of this color and how it affects the color and the space.

Undertones

The undertones of this color can be seen when you apply it to a particular wall or a space of any room. Its base undertone is actually light violet that can mostly be noticed in bright sunlight.

While in the artificial lighting, the beige undertones become slightly more noticeable. And when the lighting changes to a cooler you can see Nimbus to be more gray with a hint of blue which gives it a slightly grungy look.

LRV of Benjamin Moore Nimbus

Benjamin Moore has an LRV of 59.4, which makes it a very balanced color with right of depth and brightness. This means it reflects a moderate amount of light which makes the room feel bright without looking too much.

And it still holds enough depth, which can make this color contrast against the white trims while still keeping the space airy. This balanced LRV makes it a perfect color to use in the whole house while offering consistency across the whole house.

Different Lighting Effects

If your room is situated in the South, Nimbus 1465 will appear a little cooler because of its gray undertones. Whereas, in the north-facing room where daylight is ample you can see a more cozy and welcoming look.

In the evening, under warm lighting, Nimbus appears beige and if you have cool white light, then it will shift towards a clean gray look.

Benjamin Moore Nimbus Review: How It Looks in Real Life?

Benjamin Moore Nimbus Review How It Looks in Real Life?

The reason why we chose this color is that we always wanted an interior that offers a soft and cozy vibe to the room, yet still looks modern.

And that’s when I saw someone recommending Benjamin Moore Nimbus on Reddit.

And after seeing several interior designs and images of Nimbus, I finalized this color for our interior. Let’s discuss in depth what this color is about and how we used it in our spaces.

Spaces Recreated

So it started from the first floor living room and ended on the second floor bedroom. We used this color in our entire house whether it is a bathroom or a bedroom, and didn’t leave a single space.

In the living room, we painted the walls with BM Nimbus, kept the ceiling white and added dark brown accents on the fireplace trims.

While in the bedroom, the walls in Nimbus, wood furniture, soft off white bedsheets and rugs did their best.

The whole house was in the white trims and Nimbus Beige magical tones which helped us achieve the image of house we wanted.

Maintenance And Durability

The maintenance and the durability of this paint depends on what kind of paint line and finish you choose. For our whole house, we went with a satin finish because it is easy to clean and maintain.

So whenever we find the need to clean it, we just grab a sponge and sopa water and just clean it properly.

The durability of the Regal paint is very good and it also comes in various sheens and prints from which you can choose from.

Cost

So now, the very crucial and significant part, what is the cost of the product? So I purchased the Regal Select interior paint in satin finish, which cost us $82 per gallon.

By which we painted our one living room and half bedroom because every paint requires at least 2 coats to get the even finish.

If you want any extra discount, then you can always go with your local retailer or any nearby shop. Though these paints are always available on the Benjamin Moore site but sometimes get out of stock. So it’s better to have your other options checked.

Complementary Colors Pairing

Because of its balanced undertones, Nimbus achieves a high place in terms of versatility with other colors. We chose colors like chantilly lace for the ceiling, doors, trims and even curtains while on the accent walls, we went with taupe color.

For the fixtures, we choose golden ones for the taps, cabinet knobs, or any other decorative items. While we kept the countertops in warm beiges so the Benjamin Moore Nimbus color palette looked seamless and cozy.

For the upholstery, we went with a mix of soft green, deep blues and charcoal around the sofas, pillows and cushions.

Ways To Incorporate BM Nimbus in Different Spaces Of The House

Ways To Incorporate BM Nimbus in Different Spaces Of The House

Whether it is your bathroom or bedroom, you can use Benjamin Moore Nimbus comfortably because of its versatility. The more you use it, the brighter and shinier your house will be.

But one thing you need to know is the answer of “how to,” and that is what we will be discussing in this section.

Nimbus Benjamin Moore Cabinets

Benjamin Moore Nimbus Cabinets
Benjamin Moore Nimbus Color Cabinets

Nimbus Gray cabinets around the kitchen, bathroom or any other area bring a cleaner and softer vibe to the house. But this only works if you have a lighter or darker color on the walls.

This creates a subtle contrast in the space, which is needed otherwise, it will look plain and just bright. You can use colors like Benjamin Moore Pale Oak as a secondary color in the palette for a smooth transition and light contrast.

The best way to enhance the cabinets is to pair them with the golden, silver or black knobs and the same color fixtures around that space.

Nimbus Benjamin Moore Exterior

In the exterior, this color can do magic by making it more visually appealing and airy that depicts the image of a Disney house. You can go with a soft charcoal roof and white or off-white trims to make a slight contrast and to define the house lines.

Rather than painting the door, shutters and windows white, pick a different color like a darker beige or brown to emphasize them. Green landscaping and good lighting around the house boost the curb appeal.

These settings will turn the Benjamin Moore Nimbus Gray Exterior into something irresistible.

Nimbus Benjamin Moore Bathroom

You can use BM Nimbus on the walls with white trims and ceiling which will make the bathroom look brighter and more dreamy than it was before.

In the cabinets or the pantry, you can choose lighter blue, beige or even soft charcoal or brown shade.

If your walls and cabinets are dark, then keep the countertops in light colors,  such as white or soft beige. And if walls and cabinets are lighter in color then you can keep them darker in color such as charcoal, brown or dark blue.

With Nimbus golden, silver or black fixtures will work the best and a dark brown flooring will bring more warmth, while the lighter one aligns with the palette.

Nimbus Benjamin Moore Bedroom

BM Nimbus 1465 is the best color that you can use to make the bedroom perfectly warm for sleeping at night. The calmer the room is, the brighter your day will be.

And to do so, you need to pair Nimbus with soft, muted colors in charcoal, beige or white to add the colors in the palette softly.

We don’t need a surprise of color—what we need is the serenity with a calm splash of colors in the bedroom.

Curtains, ceiling, door and window can be in white while the flooring and other furniture are in medium dark wood accent.

Benjamin Moore Nimbus Vs Similar Benjamin Moore Greiges

Benjamin Moore Nimbus is very well known for its balanced tones and bright personality but it also has a color match within Benjamin Moore.

Not the perfect equivalent but the ones that give the same vibe and have the same undertones as Nimbus. So let’s understand how different and same these colors are.

Benjamin Moore Nimbus vs Nimbus Gray

Benjamin Moore Nimbus vs Nimbus Gray
A Comparison between Benjamin Moore Nimbus vs Nimbus Gray

Here comes the tricky question, you might be wondering why these two have similar names. Nimbus 1465 is the color we know but Benjamin Moore Nimbus Gray 2131 50 is a color whose actual name is Beneath the Clouds.

So normally people refer to Beneath the Clouds as Nimbus gray which is not an actual name of it.

We can see a clear difference between these two, one is greige and the other is gray-blue. You can choose Nimbus if you want a lighter modern gray that can work with any style of house.

And choose Nimbus Gray a.k.a Beneath the Clouds for a more saturated gray and to bring color and calmness to the walls.

Benjamin Moore Nimbus vs Balboa Mist

BM Balboa Mist 1549 is a soft gray color with an LRV 65.53, which means it is brighter than Nimbus (LRV 59.4).

When comparing side by side, you can see the difference clearly and can feel the Balboa Mist is the lighter version of Nimbus.

So if you want a cleaner and brighter look in a greige color with a little depth, then this is the best color you can choose.

And go for Nimbus, if you want a gray that looks consistent across the lighting or throughout the day.

Benjamin Moore Nimbus vs Revere Pewter

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter HC-172 is a warmer and cozier color than Nimbus though they are both gray colors but still you can see this difference very clearly.

Revere Pewter has an LRV of 55.05 and has more taupe undertones than Nimbus 1465 which makes Revere slightly depthful.

Nimbus is a safer choice because it doesn’t have any extra undertones which makes it versatile and less dynamic.

While Revere Pewter can change very much in different lighting, it shows a very volatile nature.

Benjamin Moore Nimbus vs Collingwood

When comparing side by side you can see soft pink undertones in Collingwood and beige warmth in the Nimbus.

Collingswood can work with white trims or soft pink decor, which can make the interior more vivid and welcoming.

If you have a nice Nimbus wall in the bedroom then a Gray Cardigan will look good on the sofas, pillows or in the furniture. We can even paint the lower cabinets in the kitchen with this color while keeping the uppers in the Nimbus.

But make sure to include it in a way that it doesn’t look out of place and is more intentional.

Stardust 2108 40

You can use Nimbus 1465 on the main wall and then Stardust on the panelling or niches to create a contrast. In the living room, if you have a Nimbus wall, then keeping the Stardust on the sofas, accent chairs or curtains will be best.

Stardust cabinets, Nimbus wall in the kitchen to keep the space refined and rich while Nimbus wall and Stardust upholstery will be perfect in the bedroom.

It is a classic white color with the LRV of 83.16 which signifies that it is a very light color. With Nimbus, you can use it in the ceiling, curtains or the trims. In the kitchen, use this on the dining table while keeping the table in a wood accent.

And if you keep the walls of all the rooms in Nimbus, then cabinets, built-ins or doors can be in the White Dove. This will make the theme of the house more coordinated and well-balanced with a lighter and a darker color pairing.

You can use this color in the kitchen lower cabinets while keeping the uppers in the Nimbus Benjamin Moore.

And add Nimbus 1465 in the upholstery, in featured pieces, etc to bring contrast and a rich color to the Benjamin Moore Nimbus color palette.

Conclusion

Ultimately, Benjamin Moore Nimbus has proved itself to be a color that not only has the power to transform a room into a halo-like ambience.

But can also pair with most of the colors to help the house in looking astonishing and hard to ignore.

Whether it is your bedroom walls, kitchen cabinets or the exterior, Nimbus 1465 is the whole-house adaptable color.

It doesn’t have any extra undertones which makes the house more consistent throughout the day.

And with all this Nimbus information, we also got to see how there are some other options always available that depict the same vibe as Nimbus.
